Awhile back, I had to get real with myself and unfollow some perfectly fine accounts because I wasn’t in a space where I was strong enough to not compare myself to them. Seeing their photos would set me back to earlier times when I would constantly be comparing my body to others. In the beginning, it was hard because I felt like unfollowing people I wanted to look like would make me less “accountable” to a goal body figure. Some movement is better than no movement. . As a younger me, I can remember being so concerned about maximizing my calories burned that I wouldn’t even want to exercise unless it was a high intensity class, for at least 60 minutes. Any exercise besides this I would write off as not being beneficial or worth it. Society tells us that in order for exercise to count it has to be extreme, prolonged, and wildly complex. But the truth is, intentionally moving your body everyday and challenging it in a healthy way, that you ENJOY, might just be the best thing to do. Don’t get discouraged today. Posting again because I’m the Queen of spelling errors and has a spelling error in the last one 😂😂. Committing to a healthy mind and finding food freedom can be a very scary thing. Even just asking yourself this question can be a very scary thing. But if we really want change, we have to be real, we have to be honest . . . Chatting with an amazing lady, whom I have never even met, rejuvenated my passion to help people find freedom. After the call I was so full but also somewhat angry because body dissatisfaction is so rampant among our culture and it’s just straight up evil. (Yeah, I said it- I think it’s evil. Not saying those who are dissatisfied with their bodies are evil but I do think the lie itself that body dissatisfaction represents is evil). . . . Is it just me or do you eat a lot more when you’re at home? Unconscious walk-bye’s the kitchen for another cookie 🍪, 3 slices of “snack cheese 🧀 “ every 15 minutes? Yeah. It happens to the best of us. . . Despite my cool little rhyme in the pic, I’m actually not against snacking, I do it all the time. However, I notice that snacking can be a big hang up for some because they don’t do it well and they don’t check in with their hunger cues before doing so. . . Tips to snack well: 1. Ask yourself if you’re hungry before even looking in the fridge. 2. Treat snacks as mini meals- make them balanced with at least two macronutrients (carb, fat, and protein). 3. If you’re just bored, find something else to do. 4. Before snacking, reflect on what you’ve had earlier, plan a snack that makes up for what you’re lacking in intake for that day. 5. Choose Whole Foods to snack on. Snacks don’t have to Come from packages. How often do you take a bite of food and it just doesn’t taste like what you thought it would? OR maybe it’s straight up heaven on the first bite but then you realize that same heavenly sugar is actually give you stomach cramps by bite 18. . . . What do you do when this happens? Do you even notice it happening? For a lot of people, food starts to diminish in flavor as the meal goes on. I like to tell my clients that when it comes to food, just because you started something doesn’t mean you have to finish it. . . . Check in with yourself halfway through a meal and ask, “Am I still enjoying this and is it worthy of my taste buds or am I just eating it because it’s in front of me?” If you do a full body check-in and you are still enjoying, keep chewin’! The other day I had the opportunity to chat with Spoelstra Chiropractic at their moms group (amazing ladies there, you should go follow if you’re not already @cdahealth) regarding intuitive eating. I was so encouraged by the transparency that the women offered regarding their own nutrition journeys and views of their bodies. One lady had something that I have thought about often since that night, and I thought I’d share it with you in hopes to evoke growth and grace in your own health journey. . . She said that for so many years she had been forgiving her body for not being what she wanted it to be. She would say she was “giving it grace” for not having small thighs or not being as toned as she’d like. . . Then, just a few days prior to my visit she had an epiphany. She realized that she actually needed to ASK FORGIVENESS FROM HER BODY instead of offering forgiveness to it. Because after all, her body was the one that continually kept her breathing, carried her dear children, and continued to function EVEN AFTER all the ridicule she had given it countless times in her mind and speech. . . Do you need to ask your body for forgiveness for the way you’ve talked about it or the way you’ve treated it over the years? Maybe it’s something major like depriving it of food, maybe it’s been negative comments and subtle shaming. What have you said to yourself that you wouldn't dare say to your close friends or your children? . . . To take a step towards health, comment a positive statement you're going to start speaking over the body you've been given.

There are thousands of thoughts that run through your mind everyday. Your ability to deal with them and recognize their power over your actions is critical for your health journey. . . Results from a study conducted in 2012 report: "Exposure to fat talk (speaking negatively about one's body regarding size/shape) from peers was experimentally manipulated to determine the effect of hearing fat talk on a woman’s own likelihood of engaging in fat talk and on state body dissatisfaction, guilt, and sadness. Undergraduate women (n = 87; all of a healthy weight) from a Midwestern university in the United States participated in a study ostensibly about discussing magazine advertisements. Two female confederates were present for the discussion. While discussing an advertisement featuring an attractive and thin female model, participants either heard both confederates engage in fat talk, neither confederate engage in fat talk, or the first engage in fat talk and the second challenge the fat talk. Hearing a confederate fat talk made the participants more likely to fat talk themselves (especially if the fat talk went unchallenged) and increased participants’ self-reported state body dissatisfaction and guilt. Participants who engaged in fat talk reported higher levels of self-reported state body dissatisfaction and guilt, compared to participants who did not engage in fat talk (even when controlling for pre-existing trait body dissatisfaction)... Additionally, correlational analyses revealed that participants with higher levels of trait body dissatisfaction (assessed at a pre-test) were more likely to engage in fat talk." ...But seriously... you really can🤣. I talk about poop with all my clients because of how telling it can be to other underlying issues. If your poop ain't right, your life ain't right... Or something like that. . . But in all seriousness, stool formation, consistency, frequency, color, texture, smell and physical pain with bowel movements are just some of the symptoms that can reveal a LOT about what's going on internally with someone. . . . By learning people's stool patterns, it can give clues as to surgeries they've had in the past, possible vitamin and mineral deficiencies they may have, food sensitivities, diseases they may have, what foods they might be missing in their diet and so much more. . . If you're going more than a day without a bowel movement or are fluctuating between constipation and diarrhea, we need to talk. You shouldn't be regularly constipated and you shouldn't have to be running to the bathroom often either Even if you do have a GI condition, there are many diet alterations you can make that allow life to be more doable. My husband and I were gone for 28 days in Europe last month. I’m sure all of you have some amazing trips planned as well for the summer. (What are they?! I wanna hear! Comment them below👇🏾👇🏾) Since it is travel season for a lot of us, I thought I'd share some quick tips to keep in mind while traveling. 1. For the plane/car ride there: PACK SNACKS. It'll save you money 💰 and you’ll most likely have healthier options. Fresh fruit 🍌, carrots 🥕, celery, nuts/seeds 🥜, grass-fed jerky, trail mix, rice cakes etc are all good options. 2. Once at your destination: Utilize a local grocery store. Take a trip when you first land to stock up on breakfast items and restock your snacks. 3. Find local markets. Most towns have fresh farmers markets packed with cheap produce 🍉 🌶. Google them or ask some locals! 4. Walk 🚶🏼‍♂️to your sight seeing. It’s really amazing how much walking you can get in to a trip. If you are in a downtown location, go explore and walk around the city instead of always taking a taxi! 🚕 5. Try and find an air bnb with a small kitchen. Again, you will save so much money 💴 and help your health if you cook some of your meals 🥘 at the place you’re staying. Find a good recipe and make dinner a group project! 6. Remember, you can have treats and sweets 🍭 anytime you want when you’re at home 🏡. So don’t feel like you constantly have to be “splurging” simply because you’re in a foreign place. Of course eat the Italian gelato, but if you’re not feeling like a sweet, then there’s nothing wrong with eating a well balanced 🥦 🍗 meal instead. Your body will thank you for the balance you provide it. . .
